Instructor: Andrew Harvey, Ph.D.
Faculty Bio: Poet, novelist, translator, mystical scholar and lecturer, Andrew Harvey has taught at Oxford, Cornell, Hobart and Smith Colleges, CIIS, and UCS. He is the author and editor of over 30 books including The Return of the Mother, Son of Man: The Mystical Path to Christ, The Direct Path and his most recent book, Sun at Midnight-A Memoir of the Dark Night published by Tarcher-Putnam (October 2002)
Course Description: For Aurobindo said toward the end of his life, "If there is to be a future, it will wear the crown of feminine design." In other words, the survival of the human race depends on as deep and rich an dynamic an understanding as possible of the 'Motherhood of God' and a passionate commitment to put that understanding into practice in all the areas of life. Andrew' class will be devoted to uncovering this understanding and detailing its living practice in the world. Special attention will be given to the exploration of God-As-Mother in the Hindu and Christian mystical traditions.
