Art as Meditation: Native American Rituals -

Instructor: Sr. Jose Hobday

Faculty Bio: Sr. Jose is of Seneca Iroquois descent. She has taught from high school through university levels, and has worked with Native peoples on Reservations in Montana, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. She also taught in the Native American Culture Center at UCLA. She has lectured and given retreats and workshops in all 50 states and globally in Australia, throughout the South Pacific, South America, Mexico, Canada, Italy, and Ecuador. She has written for numerous publications and books, and has authored two books.

Course Description: For tens of thousands of years Tribal Peoples of the Americas have celebrated their place in Creation The holiness of the land, how humans relate to all the Universe, is expressed in many forms of chants, dances, purification and initiation rites, vision quests, and seasonal rituals. This course will examine the power and joy of ancient and present-day forms of worship on American soil.
