Art-as-Meditation: Drawing Out Our Soul: An Experience of Touch Drawing 61021AInstructor: Deborah Koff-Chapin Faculty Bio: Deborah Koff-Chapin (BFA Cooper Union) has been developing Touch Drawing since it came to her in a creative revelation in 1974. She has presented Touch Drawing at many national conferences and educational institutions. Deborah is creator of SOULCARDS 1 & 2 and author of Drawing Out Your Soul. Her artwork has appeared in numerous magazines and books. Deborah is on the board of directors of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association and is an adjunct professor at California Institute of Integral Studies. Course Description: This course provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the simple but profound process of Touch Drawing. As you move your fingertips on paper that has been placed over a surface of paint, marks are formed on the underside of the page. In each drawing session, you will create a series of 20-30 images. Images pour directly from within, allowing for great freedom of expression. These are direct impressions of the ever-changing patterns of the soul. Touch Drawing is a practice that can help you develop trust in your body wisdom and intuitive impulses. Even the most unconfident non-artist can create images that are authentic, spontaneous and surprisingly beautiful. Deborah holds a sacred space with live music including the heartbeat of the drum, the resonance of chimes and vocal improvisations. Movement, journal writing and sharing will be used to integrate the experience. Class Size: 20-25 Materials Needed/ Course Fee: Old shirt or smock Writing Journal [ Faculty ] [ Tutition/ Fees ] [ Paper Due Dates ]
