Art as Meditation: Freeing the Naked Voice: Pathway to the Soul - # 61022

Instructor: Shanja Kirstann

Faculty Bio:Shanja is a transpersonal psychotherapist and a gifted evocateur-assisting others to free the voice of their souls and to craft a soulful life with meaning. She brings heart, humor and depth to Integrative Soulwork, utilizing medicine wheel wisdom and shamanics, the artistic path dream medicine and practical coaching skills to manifest voices and visions of the soul. In addition to over 25 years of teaching experience in the SF Bay Universities, Shanja also has a private practice in which she assists individuals in their awakening process. Her postgraduate training includes work with Jean Houston, Angeles Arrien, Marian Woodman at the CG Jung Institute in Switzerland and with Gay Hendricks in Transpersonal Bodymind Integration.

Course Description: "When the ears of the heart are open, the voice of the other can sing through you." In this class, we will explore the power of Deep Listening and High Play as a pathway to rediscover your authentic voice. Our journey will focus on setting ourselves free through the liberated voice and bringing Soul back into our life and the Earth Community Heart-full approaches to rekindle our creative fire will include: medicine wheel wisdom, shamanic and contemporary sound medicine practices, authentic movement and sounding, the magic of the word through writing meditations and the creation of spontaneous soul-songs arising out of the Deep Heart of our Cosmic Web.

Course Objectives:

  1. To provide a safe space for students to explore the power of the voice, sound and music as a gateway for healing, creative expression and spiritual awakening.
  2. To awaken and free the creative spirit through an interplay of various expressive modes of body movement, sounding, mandela drawing, poetry writing and spontaneous dramatic improvisations.
  3. To awaken intuitive listening through voice work - to access the voice of the soul through Silence and Stillness for guidance in one's everyday life.
  4. To release the judge and to find one's own authentic voice through powerful, yet transforming awareness processes that access the Witness.
  5. To experience the shamanic dimensions of the voice to bond with each other and other members of the Earth Community.
