Art-as-Meditation: Moving Toward Stillness
- # 61028
Instructor: Robert Rice
Faculty Bio: Robert Rice has conducted workshops in movement for over 25 years throughout the United States and abroad. He has been on the faculties of the Institute in Culture and Creation Spirituality, and J.F.K. University in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to his focus in dance for spiritual direction, he is a visual artist and expressive arts therapist.
Course Description: Moving toward stillness explores the dynamic relationship of body and spirit, specifically how physical expression can give rise to spiritual direction. Structured yet open-ended creative movement improvisations invite each participant to find his or her own dance. As the course progresses participants may choose to include among the options in this dance the deep open space of stillness where the body is quiet yet the spirit continues to move. Ultimately, it is about trusting the wisdom of the body and accepts what is said in Wisdom of Solomon 7:21, "For wisdom moves more easily than motion itself."
