Faculty Bio: Mara Freeman, M.A., has studied Celtic mythology and spirituality for over 30 years and is one of the foremost writers, speakers and storytellers of Celtic sacred traditions. She holds degrees in literature, education and psychology and has led workshops throughout the United States. She is a member of the British Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids and has recently been named as the Honorary Chief Bard of the Druid Order. Mara is the regular writer for PARABOLA, the Journal of Myth and Tradition. She has recently released the book, Kindling the Celtic Spirit. (Harper, San Francisco, 2000)

Course Description:

• This class will provide an opportunity to dive deep into the ancient earth-based wisdom tradition of the Celts through stories, inner journeying, qrt, ritual and sacred circle dance.
  
  
• We will explore the meaning of the Three Worlds, Four Directions, Tree of Life and Well of Wisdom, and learn how to create sacred space.
  
  
• Through myth, music, poetry and song we will journey to the Otherworld, the Celtic spirit realm of beauty and wisdom that closely intersects our physical world, and learn about the gods, goddesses and faeries.
  
  
• A journey through the Celtic Wheel of the Year will show us how to align ourselves with the natural cycles of the green world and celebrate the seasonal festivals in our own lives and communities today. We will also create a ritual for this time of year that celebrates the beginning of the Celtic harvest.
