On January 19, 2003 The University of Creation Spirituality (UCS) and Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, will host the 6th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Taylor Memorial Church, 1188 12th St. at Adeline, starting at 10am.

This year, UCS and Taylor Memorial Church have also partnered with the Attitudinal Healing Connection; a West Oakland based nonprofit organization, to focus on youth, social justice, community service, activism and healing. Three community leaders have been selected to receive the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award based upon their exemplary service to the Oakland community. Rafael Jesus Gonzalez, noted Poet and Activist will give the Keynote address.  We will also hear from young activists and learn what they are doing to Make the Dream Real.  The free event includes the sharing of a community meal following the service.

According to Matthew Fox, founder and President of UCS, over the years, “the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration has grown to be more than just a way of honoring Dr. King’s passionate vision, but has become a platform for moving his vision forward. The University of Creation Spirituality presents this event annually to increase knowledge, build understanding and foster harmony among communities in the Bay Area.”

Today more than ever we are challenged to change our society from one of fear and violence to the beloved society that Dr. King envisioned. We can Make The Dream Real by being willing to serve children and by listening to what young people have to say. Dr. King said that "everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." Come to Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church on January 19 at 10am and feed your heart and soul.
