Exploring the Primitive Unconscious

Beyond the limits of Psychotherapy

Workshop Leader: Tina de Souza

July 2, 2004  10 am – 6 pm

This workshop is part of a series that explores natural energy systems and their role in spiritual, psychological and physical health. Participants will learn ways to deepen their understanding and exploration of the primitive unconscious by a process that integrates the indigenous wisdom of the Afro-Brazilian healing traditions with western psychotherapeutic practices.

Over the course of three-four workshops the sophisticated Afro-Brazilian understanding of the Orixas (the 16 qualities of the four elements), as they relate to the psychosomatic balance of the Self, will be presented. The elements of fire and earth will be the focus of this first workshop.

An experiential practicum will be included during the day.

This series is designed for therapists, spiritual directors, social workers, and health professionals.

Tina de Souza has over 30 years of initiation in the Afro-Brazilian tradition and has developed the Meta-Psychotherapy Process (MPP), based on the integration of Afto-Braziian traditions with psychotherapy processes to develop psychosomatic balance in the Self. Tina lives and works in Brazil where she maintains a clinical practice and is a faculty member at the University of Sao Paulo. She also lectures widely in Europe and the United States.
