MOVEMENT AS STILLNESS

Workshop Leader: Robert Rice

Course Description:

Movement as Stillness explores the dynamic relationship of body, mind andspirit, specifically how physical movement can go beyond words distillingideas and feelings.   Structured, yet open-ended creative movementimprovisations, invite each participant to find his or her own way ofmoving.  As the course progresses participants may choose to includeamong the options in their movement the deep open space of stillnesswhere the body is quiet yet the spirit continues to move. Explorationsaddress various and often surprising dimensions of time, space andenergy, the importance of the breath, and the interpersonal dynamics ofmovement through participation with partners and the group as a whole.

Presenter: Robert Rice's career in the arts has followed a dual interest indance and visual art.  He has M. A. degrees in both visual arts andexpressive therapies and has taught at the college level for 35 years. Inaddition he has worked in hospitals and clinical settings developing artsprograms for cancer patients, developmentally disabled persons, frailelderly, chronic pain patients and others.  His work emphasizes themind/body/spirit    connection and how an increased awareness of this connection may lead to healing.
