IN YOUR OWN VOICE: WRITING AND THE QUEST FOR HEALING

Workshop Leader: Lois Silverstein

Date: March 4, 2004  and March 11, 2004 3:00pm - 6:00pm

DESCRIPTION:

Writing enhances the quest for self-knowledge. Using writing used in the consulting room, therapists can help clients extend this quest as well as help them clarify emotional, intellectual and spiritual blockages and take steps to release them. How can literary tools best facilitate this process? How can therapists integrate these with other therapeutic modalities? Discussion and experiential work will enable us to see writing in action in this way and glimpse its effectiveness for healing and deepening the therapist-client dialogue. Join us.

Lois Silverstein, Ph.D., REAT, is a published novelist, poet, playwright, and performer. She worked for many years with psychiatric patients at Mt.Zion hospital, and more recently at Boyer House, where she also has done supervision and consulting. Now she runs her own creativity development and Expressive Arts Therapy practice in Berkeley as well as teaches writing and women’s literature at various colleges and graduate schools in the Bay Area. A recipient of the Ruth Witt-Diamant Poetry Prize from San Francisco State, she published her first novel, DAUGHTER, in 2002.
